Do NOT get an iPhone from Rogers

Today I picked up a sweet video card from a buddy of mine at work - Andrew. He hooked me up with a Radon x800 PRO which is a kick ass AGP card. My old Radeon 9800 bit the dust a few weeks ago and I had been hobbling along with my older Radeon 9250SE (128 mb). What a difference newer video card makes. I've set my display to 1600 x 1200 and the old 19 inch Gateway CRT monitor goes right up to it with no problems at all. Video playback is impressive and I can get pretty good half HD video (720p) without much trouble.

I also have a Hauppauge 150 MCE video card that I use to capture live video off my Motorolla PVR box. It's got an S-Video input so it's pretty good. My computer system isn't top-of-the line, but it does allow me to view any kind of videos out there, including full High definition 1080p. I was going to start the third chapter to my shitty car list, but then thought why bother. It's friday...and hell... I feel good. Theres no need to bitch about anything today. If you have any cool driving stories you'd like to share with me, feel free to fill out a comment or two. I'll take them and compile a special story day. I'll add a few of my own interesting stories just to keep it really weird.

And if you haven't heard by now.... the iPhone 2.0 was received in Canada today. Personally, I'm disgusted with the rates the cell phone companies are charging for this device. You cannot buy an iPhone in Canada out right. You HAVE to sign up for an expensive 3 year contract. Contracts start at 60.00 per month and if you're smart, you'll take the 30$ plan that Rogers (or THIEVES as I like to call them) for the extra data plan which gives you 6 gig a month of transfers and unlimited texting.

So are you getting an iPhone? I like my Blackberry Pearl phone. It does everything I need it to do. If I want an e-book reader, I use my Palm Z22. The palm gets 12 hours of battery life out of a SINGLE charge. Can the iPhone do that? I also use a cheap ass MP3 player that has absolutely NO DRM. But that comes as a cost. Carrying multiple devices is a bit of a pain, but I'm willing to do it.

My advice is to NOT buy the iphone and sign up for a 3 year contract. DON'T DO IT. New spectrums of radio frequency bands have been recently auctioned off in Canada. More competitors are scheduled to take advantage of these plans in the next year and a half. I think that Rogers, having the exclusive contract for the iPhone should be a target of protests from Canada since it's introduction.

Canadian iPhone fans have launched an online petition protesting pricing plans Rogers Wireless Inc. will offer customers when the coveted touchscreen device arrives in Canada July 11. So far more than 16,000 people have signed the petition at ruinediphone.com since the site was launched Friday.

For those folks who seem to have a hard time understanding what the reality of the situation is, I'll break it down for you:

ITS JUST A FUCKING PHONE!
