Detroit, the modern day Roman Empire
The sad legacy of Detroit Michigan is that over half the population is now gone. I've been watching the deterioration of Detroit remotely and more recently tracking the deterioration through news media. The sad truth is the city is so poor it cannot even afford to bury the dead. Detroit is a photographers paradise. Ruin can be beautiful if shown for what it is: nature taking back everything to the earth. I stumbled upon a great web site that features photos of the ruins which are fascinating. Ever wonder what a doctors office looks like after 20 years abandoned? It's sort of like looking at Priapat, the city next to the fabled Chernobyl disaster. If you've ever seen that commercial with Jeff Daniels praising about the high technology of Michigan, don't believe the hype. It's all dry rot under that sad veneer of fancy wood.
