What if --- The Purge existed ?

Imagine this: Once a year for 12 hours of the day, all crimes are legal: Murder, torture, assault, robbery, etc... The rules of the purge are simple:

* No killing outside the purge hours
* People who place blue flowers on their door step signal support for the purge. However, this does not convey any protection, it's merely a symbol
* It's perfectly legal to kill that asshole neighbor who blasts music at all hours of the day
* People who don't want to participate are urged to arm up and stay in a secured bunker

To watch people celebrate bloodshed and murder is something that approaches madness. A young woman brings out a machete and announces "For our Founding Fathers of America" and chops the head off her next door neighbor. (Who happens to be tied up on a chair).

If you've never watched Ultra-graphic videos such as Kill Bill Vol 1&2, A Better Tomorrow, The TV Series Rome, or anything that shows actors grinning while slicing their victims apart - is crazy. We were taught to be nice from kindergarten onwards. Bullying or attacking other people are usually things we don't consider much, if at all.

The Purge goes against all normal decency and humankind. It revels in bloodshed and violence. To live in a society where killing is not only considered, but encouraged is simply insane. And yet, no more than 77 years ago, Nazi Germany was busy gassing and incinerating 6 millions Jews.

You can see we're not far from this at all. Especially with a Trumpian administration in the United States Government. Known more for banging whores and cheating people out of real estate deals, Donald Trump would absolutely entertain the idea of an annual Purge for his base. And they would eat it up and love it.

"He's giving us a get-out-of-jail-free card!" I could imagine his supporters exclaiming excitedly. So imagine the Annual Purge was legal in Canada instead of the USA.

What would my strategy be? Roam around, get hacked or shot by strangers or even co-workers? No, I would most certainly bunker down but with the best weapons I could procure:

• 1 – Ruger 10/22.
• 2 – Remington 700.
• 3 – AR-15 (reputable brands include: CMMG, Inc., Bushmaster, Sig Sauer, Ruger, Colt, Daniel Defense)
• 4 – AK-47 (semi-auto variants-Krebs, Mossberg, CAI, Kalashnikov, Saiga, etc.)
• 5 – Mossberg 500 Tactical Pump Shotgun with chest hanger
• Kevlar vests and knife protection

But where to go? Stay in the city and pray some asshole doesn't hit your apartment building with an RPG? Although you could equip enough cameras to ensure you do have adequate remote viewing coverage.

The solution is simple: Leave the country. However, during the annual Purge event, the government has shut down all international and domestic flights for 24 hours. Killing is important.

So I decide to sit in the basement storage unit, clutching my automatic weapons and semi-automatic shotguns. Sort of my strategy when playing PUBG. Unfortunately, it's a bad strategy because you're a virtual sitting duck. The smartest strategy is to leave the country a few days before the annual purge. But then again, the government made it illegal to travel outside of the country on the Purge Month. Afterall, blood must be shed.

And so I choose the riskiest option: Roaming the countryside. We've got tons of rednecks out here, so I would imagine roadblocks setup just outside of the city. It's here where I ditch the car and don the ghillie camoflage suit. We camp out in a tree with night vision and keep the quarter mile circle around me clear.

Thankfully there's no purges. But I wonder, what would it take to push a country over the edge ?
