Uniden Bearcat 880

 

I don't even know why I bought this. It is dangerously close to becoming a HAM radio enthusiast. I have to be careful here. Before you know it, I'll be creating 1999-style web sites talking about HAM meet up.  I guess in theory, it could be useful if I ever got lost in the RAV and couldn't find my way. Example: In a snow storm, a radio like this could save your life. It only has a 4-watt power output, limited by the FCC. 

It's good enough to cover 10 miles or so. I'm not sure what kind of range I'll get with my antenna. The magnet mount doesn't sound too appealing. Mounting it inside near the back glass may be an option. The tricky part will be deciding where to mount this thing. 

And should I even bother? These are a juicy target for thieves.

I'm going to wait until Saturday before I even attempt to install this thing.
