On social media, someone might say "I'm going to Las Vegas!" when they are doing nothing at all. Some people like to seek attention.

• To pacify or appease others. ...

"Don't worry, I'll repay that money you loaned me" words said by even my own brother. Protip: He never paid me back.

• To get rewards. ...

This one is great. Someone tells you "I sent you a card in the mail!" and never follows up. Because they never sent you a card. Ever. But why? For attention. 

• To avoid punishment. ...

To be blunt, this one is used by children to avoid punishment. Rarely do you see this used by adults.

• To get attention. ...

Used by most liars to this day. Infact, it's the only reason people lie.

• To get sympathy. ...

Unbelievable evil if you do this. Enacting sympathy from a fake illness or trauma event ? Holy hell will you catch fire.

• To test trust.

Narcissists use this to test if someone is truthful or can keep a secret. When someone does this to you - run away!

The world has been built on lies for eons. No one wants to tell the truth anymore.

Which is sad.
