Was 2008 that far away? It seems 17 years ago I took this picture with my Fuji S700. Sadly, I would lose that camera in Winnipeg while riding a shitty 10-speed bike.
The building pictured above is the old apartment Theresa and I used to live in. Back then, it was old, leaking, and been through one too many storms. In 3 years, that building would erupt in flames after workers, who were welding the balcony supports on the 4th floor.
The fire spread quickly, and caused the complete evacuation until it was eventually 50% burned down. The firewall was the only thing that kept the building from entirely burning down.
A few years later, after we left Nova Scotia in 2012, it would be rebuilt to the same 4-story specification. This time, it was marketed an 'upscale' living in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. The rent we paid back in 2011 was roughly $775. Now, you can expect to pay anywhere between $1100 and $1500 a month minimum.
It reminds me of how busy our lives were back then. Theresa's mother and step-dad lived across the hall from us. She was taking care of 1 elderly man named Neil. Theresa was working as a nurse at the Abby B. Lane mental hospital as a licensed practical nurse.
She worked the evening shift, 11-7, and it wasn't easy. Fast forward a few years, and we'd be leaving Nova Scotia for good. How times have changed. It's incredible to think how quickly time flies.
