2006 Was A Long Time Ago

2006 Showing myself next to an Acura NSX

Obsessed with cars, I wrote for 2 years doing home-made car reviews. While it was fun, the tedious nature of going into car dealerships and convincing them to let me drive a new vehicle off the lot was getting old. Not many dealerships wanted to have a local drive and put wear and tear on their costly new cars and trucks. It sucked.

I even had a photographer (Ray) back then. The car above was spotted on the street, and I never test drove it.

And then I realized it was two decades ago. Twenty years. I was 36 Goddamn years old in the above shot. It hit me like a ton of bricks. Where has time gone? Great question indeed.

I drove this wonderful piece of crap 2003 Chevy Cavalier. It was as bad as you think it was. Near the end of it, in 2007, the horn stopped working, it rattled, squeaked, and made awful groans when you applied the throttle. That amazing Ecotec engine kept running, though. Just awful GM quality in everything but the drivetrain and engine.

Whether it was driving to Prince Edward island to visit my late wife's aunt (they were close), or just sticking around home, taking care of her family. It was quite the busy time for me.

I lived in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia from 2001 March to October 2011. After 2011, I had lived in Halifax with Theresa and her mother, Marion. What a time to be alive. We really should have lived in Halifax earlier, but her mother preferred the Eastern Passage, a nice neighborhood near Cole Harbor, Nova Scotia.

I doubt I'll ever return, but it was certainly one of the best times of my life. I'll certainly never lose that fondness for Nova Scotia or the Maritimes.

What a lovely place to live.
