Desktop Speakers
After years of using crappy generic desktop speakers, I splurged and purchased a set of Edifier MR4's for my computer at home. You can get them in black or white, I chose white - and so far - this appears to be a fairly substantial upgrade.
They're not booming with bass, but sometimes when listening it will push out a bit more base than you might expect. These are simple speakers with no bluetooth, no smartphone app, and very simple controls.
I have these connected to my sound card on the computer, having picked up a having picked up a Soundblaster 30 DAC a few weeks ago - my front jacks on my computer had broken.
You can spend a lot of money on speakers. The MR5's, which are slightly larger, have a bit more substantial sound. And honestly, when I do listen to music or movies using the MR4's, it was surprisingly clean.
These are good speakers for general use where you have low expectations. Don't expect audiophile quality from these, but the quality they deliver is surprisingly high.
Comparing these speakers to my apple pro max headphones, there's no comparison. The apple headphones are top notch audio, causing me to retire my old Sennheiser bluetooth headphones.
You can buy more expensive speakers, but this was in my price range and I was willing to take the risk.
