Mercedes Benz A-Class

A long time ago Jeremy Clarkson test drove the Mercedes-Benz A-class. You don't see many of the hatchbacks anywhere on the road, because let's be quite frank: For $30,000 dollars, I'd be hard pressed to consider a car that is easily out classed and out-valued by many other cars costing thousands of dollars less. The Civic Si, MazdaSpeed3, Cobalt SS, and even the out-of-production Neon SRT-4 and craptastic Nissan Sentra SE-R Spec V.

The brilliant part of Jeremy's original review was his admiration for the car except for the fact that it had a terrible time staying on all four wheels when being put through evasive emergency maneouvers like avoiding roadkill on the highway at the last moment. To Mercedes-Benz's credit they recalled all of the vehicles and fitted them with vehicle stability control, something I think all cars should have. Really, does it cost that much to have it these days?

Did you know MB has over 22 different kinds of vehicles? Pure automotive enthusiasts will only be worried about the SLR McLaren edition. For a half-million dollars US, you can own a 617 bhp monster car that will out accellerate almost every car on the block except for a rare few. The car uses carbon-ceramic brakes which are fade resistant to 2200 degrees Farenheit. The 4.8L supercharged V8 propels the car from 0-60 in 3.8 seconds. Car and Driver has managed to get this down to a mere 3.2 seconds. It's incredible.

Last year I drove a GL350 SUV which was a mammoth of a beast. The SUV had ever feature you could think of, including an automatic ride leveller that lowered the car during inital take off and rises the vehicle during extended stops at red lights. That truck cost about 97,000 dollars Canadian. People who buy these vehicles don't worry about gasoline going up 10 cents a liter (like it did tonight). I fill on one of those SUV's could cost you over two hundred dollars, easy.

Two of the most sought after cars are located in my home town of Winnipeg: Nissan Skyline GT-R and Acura NSX. I found a dealership that carries only supercars and I will be checking out those cars with my camera. I assure you I won't be able to take one off the lot, but on the off chance that I can, you can bet I will try.
