Subaru + Wet Mud = Sweet AWD Drifting Action
They're building a new shopping mall out in Dartmouth. Along the way to the store was a patch of ground which was basically muddy and wet. Perfect for testing out some crazy awd drifting in the mud. Cautiously applying the gas and a judiciuos amount of steering, I easily managed to throw the car around diagonally without running into a boulder or getting too crazy. The mud was flying everywhere. Caking along the inside wheel wells, I only spent a few minutes spinning around the lot doing crazy circles and drifts. I can't wait until the snow gets here.
On a serious note, November 11 (Veteran's Day) is coming up. Every time I see the Vimy Ridge memorial about the mother who lost her son to the war, it stirs up a raw emotional feeling of loss and pain:
I'd like to thank all the past, present, and deceased veteran's of Canada for their selfless service to this country. I can easily imagine going to war against an enemy threatening your family. I can't imagine going to war against someone for others I have no idea about. Talk about self sacrifice and being a hero.

This was the site of the Battle of Arras in the WW1. It was controlled by the Germans. The area was fortified with tunnels, 3 rows of trenches which were behind barbed wire and had a huge amount of artillery. Previous attempts by the British and French army had failed to take the land over. In 1917 it was decided another attack would be launched. All 4 divisions of the Canadian Corps were brought together along with the British 5th Infantry Division. After months of planning the attack was enforced and they succeeded. It started on April 2nd and the last ridge was controlled by the 12th April. Thousand of men lost their lives during this battle and many more thousands were wounded.
In recognition of the great sacrifice the Canadians made the French Government formally gave Canada a portion of the ridge in perpetuity. Also a memorial stands on hill 145 to remember the battle.
