Good riddance blackberry!
For the past year and a half I have had the blackberry pearl. At first, it was a unique and interesting device that flashed late into the night (usually from an annoying microsoft e-mail blast). But sometimes it would be a customer or co-worker asking a question. Because of job obligations, I had to answer them in a timely manner. The first thing I did when I got the blackberry was remove all the games from it. Brickbreaker was just like crack to me. I ditched that bitch. Then, after my brother sent me a risque' PIN to PIN joke from his blackberry I decided to remove that feature too.
Who knows who reviews my blackberry text contents? It's a company phone for fuck sakes. And then quite recently I transitioned from one job title to another and I didn't have a NEED for 24x7 e-mail. And then a strange thing started to happen to me. Subconsciously, I started to "check" for my phone that I knew wasn't there anymore. It was like this itch I had to scratch. Illogical, I know, but an itch all the same. I began wondering what emails I could be missing in the late hours of the night and then quickly realized how ridiculous I was becoming.
I had become joined to the blackberry without even realizing it. To be honest, they're great phones and useful for text emails. I found the intelligent text entry a bit like chewing your fingernails: Horrible but you did it anyway. Oh sure, I had bought a microSD card and tried to use the blackberry as an MP3 device - but let's be honest - it sucks at that job. I bought a Zune instead. And now, I sit, looking anxiously across my desk searching for that damn phone that I know isn't there anymore. I just know that damn red light is blinking off and on, tempting me to reach out and read that one last email. It mocks me. And now I wonder - does it have a good home? Will it be happy? Or will it be crushed or shredded like I fantasize it to be? Good riddance I say.
