$176 for brake pads - are you fucking serious? $15K brake kits?
Well, that's what Subaru wants for their base Impreza OEM pads. I visited the dealer last week on my day off and shit, was I surprised. I found a company on the internet selling Wagoner pads for HALF that price and I'll be ordering from them instead of the friggin dealership. That's only two brake pads folks.
I knew the WRX STi rotors are insane - about $300 - 400 per wheel (I'm not kidding). They use the big brembo ceramics on cross-drilled rotors. I don't have or need them 'cause this is just a base car. But I was curious how much really GOOD brakes can cost. Are you ready? $15,000 dollars! I'm serious. Check it out here.
A quick search on ebay reveals several Chinese knockoffs being pushed around for $110 which include cross-drilled rotors of questionable reliability and quality. Don't skimp on brakes. That is the one rule I follow no matter what. Buying cheap Chinese brakes are about as sane as getting a super-discount parachute at a garage sale. You just can't risk your life on this. In fact the New York Times reported in December 2008 about the dangers of cheap Chinese auto parts - especially tires.
