Windows 7 on a Pentium 4 is a complete mess.

Back in September '09 I installed Windows 7 ultimate on my ancient Pentium 4 computer. While it ran, it didn't run all that great. I continued to get random blue screens of death and random lockups. Today was the end of it and I blew the entire 7 partition away with a customized XP SP3 configuration. I can't tell you how much of a pain in the ass it is to re-install all the software I had on my previous setup. I have to also put back many of the add-ons to my browsers and other third party applications that make life essential for me. I won't be moving to Windows 7 until I get a dual or quad-core processor. The OS is just too new for the old architecture. It can't keep up. Right now, while blogging with Firefox and all my 3rd party apps loaded, I'm using 505 MB of ram. Windows7 grabbed 1 gig of ram, easily. My Radeon x800 video card is a relic now. Blazing fast 4 years ago, this card is a laughing stock of hardware. Well, I can play Left 4 Dead 2 with no problems, forget about anything requiring new pixel shaders. The P4 system is also incapable of playing any high definition video content. 720p or 1080p causes frame loss and stuttering. There isn't enough bandwidth on the Northbridge bus to handle the data rate required.
