A Collection of DIY-Electric Skateboards

Not my photos. I have 2 electronics certificates under my belt and I would not attempt this. I do not want to die that early.

Yes, you *could* buy a cheap Swagboard from Amazon for about $220 (but it's complete shite I promise you). Spend a bit more ($500 for a Yuni E-Go2) for slow speed but far more reliable than a Swagboard (what the FUCK is what that name? It should ship with a cheap ass Drake CD. Anyway)

A step up from that is a Koowheel for $900. A bit more decent but still not approaching the reliability and speed of other boards like Boosted ($1.5K) and the exotic Evolve GTX ($3K).

No! These boards are home-made and likely faster than boosted and evolve. They use custom hardware, battery packs, who knows if they use battery management systems (I think most do, for safety and reliable operation). But when you see big packs of batteries strapped to boards with little to no protection, that's a major hazard. Any small scrape would turn that board into a fiery inferno due to the rapid short circuit of the batteries.

One thing I wish boosted had was real tires. The Orangatang wheels are nice, but they're no substittue for being able to go off-road when you want. I tried last year doing this and it was very, very sketchy.

I love lights but the idea of riding in complete darkness is terrifying and I do not want to know what it feels like to lose control in the dark at 22 mph. Plus, cars can't see shit unless you have a high-viz jacket.

Smart guy, wearing a helmet.

Even better protection, full-face masks.

A boosted board next to a DIY board. I would bet the DIY board gets far more mileage than the more expensive boosted - however, I would rather ride the boosted board.
