New Hardware
This should serve as a cautionary tale as to what can happen even if you are wearing ALL protection gear while skateboarding - my tib/fib bones were crushed after I failed to land a crash and landed on my right side like a sack of meat. Above you can see the screws and other hardware that keeps my bones together while they heal. If you look closely, you can see a chip of bone that is missing near the top - it's not load bearing so it doesn't require reinforcement (according to my ortho surgeon).-
Today I graduated to the knee brace which will allow up to 60 degrees of motion. Right now I can barely manage 20 degrees. I had to loosen the brace because the pads left dimples in my flesh that were deep. They removed the staples which didn't really hurt (much) due to the fact my nerves were severed near the cut line. I'll be stretching my leg each day to try and get back to normal mobility. I can't put any weight on this leg until maybe 3 weeks from now.
The brace cost me $130, which is a bargain. If I had this accident in the states without insurance, with the 2 surgeries and hospital stays it would have cost me $20,000 USD minimum. Canada's health care is pretty damn impressive and I'm grateful to live in this country.
I sure hope the guy who bought my boosted board (Matt) never ends up like this. The bone bruises are still painful and keep me up at night. Ah well.
