First Day Back
Going back to work is formidable. The first 2 hours I didn't leave my desk. I talked to many people, some didn't know and where shocked she passed away. I almost lost it when I told someone I held her hand as she died. Bittersweet.
I'm going to go back into my previous story about the SR71 being in the airplane hanger.I arrive to find an old man behind the desk, reading the newspaper. An old song is heard playing in the background - some sappy love song from the 60's. Annoyingly, the man is humming to the music.
My SR-71, what's the status of her? I ask the old man. He peers back, annoyed I disturbed him from his obituary page. "Well son, your plane was pretty badly worn out. Half the parts aren't made anymore and we keep getting more planes arriving every day." He points to the sky. I look up, and a massive 747 is coming into the airstrip to land.
A distant radio voice is heard in the background "STSS-15-A is cleared to land airport taxi 55Henry Alpha Beta" followed by a young woman's voice "Roger".
He brings out the blueprints and explains "This is going to take time. I need to examine the design schematics and determine what I need to replace or fabricate. Because the plane is made of ultra-expensive Titanium, we have to source the metal from the department of defense."
My eyes pop. I knew this would take a very long time to fix. He pointed in the back room where a twitch streamer was playing on a computer screen. "Go sit down, relax. We'll get you a joint and some coffee. It's going to be a long time" he said.
And so I sit down and watch.
A few minutes later a young woman comes in crying about her recently deceased father. "I never knew he was going to die!" she cried.
We never know.
