Health

I know a 51-year old man who apparently was in shape, yet suffered a major heart attack after working out at the gym last week. He survived, but had to be in an ICU coma for 2 days, and when he came out, he had 30% effective function of his heart left.

Basically, it's major heart failure. Looking at the symptoms of heart failure is frightening. He'll require an implant that will electrically stimulate the heart should a bad heart beat or stopping. The man is my brother's brother-in-law. (His wife's brother). He wasn't overweight or smoked. How or why he had a heart attack is a mystery. Perhaps genetics?

BUT this was his 2nd heart attack. He did not tell his family about the first heart attack. To be honest, it made me think about my health.

I had cardiac tests earlier this year as I had random skipped heart beats. I wore a halter and ran on a treadmill until I couldn't. The good news: I had no real issues so far, but it's worrying.

My good friend Paul had a major heart attack and open heart surgery back in 2009. That's also when he took his last cigarette. I remember wheeling him into the hospital just before they operated on him.
He never smoked a cigarette ever since.

Unfortunately, this man who recently had the 2nd heart attack also took care of people in his house. I do not see how it would be possible to continue doing that, considering the level of refraction his heart has left.

My brother and his wife have been scrambling to take care of these people. I know exactly how this goes. Back in 2010, George went into the Veteran's hospital because we couldn't physically lift or move him without mechanical help. He also had mentally been declining and would be declared incompetent later in that year.

Marion was already showing symptoms of her mental decline, Theresa had Power of Attorney authority a year earlier. The sad reality of decline and aging.

I really hope he pulls through and can recover, but once you've had 2 heart attacks, you really have to stop all extra unnecessary work immediately.
