Colonoscopy

I had to get a colonoscopy done today. Once you reach 50, colon cancer is the #3 killer for Canadians. Since I tested positive for the FIT test, I had the joy of having a medical professional gently place a scope through my entire colon and remove 2 polyps.

I have to go back in 6 months for another one. I just hope it won't be as excruciating as this one was. Because I had no one to pick me up, I couldn't be sedated. Let's just say it's a weird and uncomfortable feeling having something that long that far up your ass.

And has nothing to do with if you're gay or not. It's just not right. They inflate your colon with carbon dioxide, a very inert gas. They used to use hospital oxygen but it caused too much discomfort, it wouldn't quickly be removed from the body as CO2 is.

I remember the doctor saying "This is a movie about your asshole". And yes, I watched the procedure. The only time I couldn't watch was when my stomach was in excruciating pain. Thankfully it didn't last long, I was sweating, sick to the stomach, and agitated.

But in order to do a proper colonoscopy you have to purge your insides with laxatives. 2L in the evening one day, 2L in the morning. Brutal toilet visits. But it's a small inconvenience to ensure you keep in good health. You only have one body, might as well keep it as fit as possible.

I go back for another one in July. Yay.
