The Magnavox TV
Marion's old 27 inch Magnavox TV set, probably built in 1992, still works, but is obsolete technology. When we moved to Calgary we put it in the storage of our apartment for years. Years.
I remember asking Theresa a few years ago if I could throw it out, but she got angry and said "No!". It still held an emotional attachment to her. It used to sit in the living room of her mom's house, then the apartment later on.
Bernice would buy Marion a gigantic HDTV projection TV in 2004, shortly after her husband died. Bernice also purchased the same model for herself. I would put that TV downstairs a few years ago, we didn't need it, was too large, etc.
And so now with the old relics and things long discarded, it sits. I thought, you know, throwing this out might be difficult for me. But it was the opposite. I felt a tiny piece of relief when I dropped it off for recycling. The TV still worked, but it was covered in old nicotine. They kept it clean with Windex and other cleaners, but its impossible to get rid of the airborne nicotine that clings to the components and inside. It reeked of old tobacco smoke. To be honest it was pretty disgusting.
Even Marion and Theresa would say to get rid of it. It seemed crazy to even consider keeping it.
