What Really Matters
I was chatting with a friend recently who is a really decent artist. She said something that I haven't heard in a while. "I don't care about the items she owns like phones or computers. It's the relationships and connection that counts". I completely agreed with her.
In a world where information is mere google or an Alexa search away, I mentioned the effect notifications and sounds can have on the brain - dopamine hits. I mean, when you get a match on Tinder, it sounds like a computer "level-up" chime.
The phones, computers, websites, and software give the illusion of connection. It's easy to become distracted by the fancy interface and slick application names.
I told another co-worker I wished I had taken more videos of my late wife before she past away. But I knew she never liked being on video, and I had to respect that.
Another colleague gave me a straw Budweiser cowboy hat to wear at work. And then another, asks loudly to me from across the table: "Are you still single?" to which I say "Yes, I am still single".
This summer is going to be interesting.
