Fragmented

So I've been using Twitter again, and I've noticed nothing really has changed since January 2022. They've added so little to the product over the past 10 years, I'm amazed this company still exists. Same with Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn.

In the early 2000's there wasn't any of this around. Instead, you had newsgroups from usenet, and other sources. Google's reach was non-existent. You had websites like yahoo! and askjeeves creeping in with their own search engines.

My earliest blog was in 1998, and during that time I used to upload .html files using an FTP program. I had found a free hosting website that offered "10 megs" of space for free. I copied the entire website for a local ISP at the time using software called Black Widow. I edited each file and converted it to my own custom website. And that was history. It's still archived by the webarchive online database.

People are being scooped up into smart phone apps. But to use them you need an account. It's free, but of course they'll log your data use.

I have to go eat my Domino's pizza.

So tasty. Ungh.

Chris
