I Sat Back In The Car While She Drove

It was the mid 2000's and I was in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia with Theresa. I was teaching her how to drive the 2007 Subaru Impreza. It was a manual transmission. To her credit, she never roasted the clutch much.

Afterwards, we went to A&W and bought some food via the drive through. I suggested  John's Lunch, but she said "I have a bad feeling about that place, let's avoid it." I agreed. I had no idea why. A few weeks ago, the place was robbed of money that was placed on a cork board in the restaurant. Many patrons had placed foreign currency on it.

It proved too irresistible to someone, and they were broken in. The money was stolen. No one was ever caught.

We had frequented the place for years. But no more. It had changed.

Our normal go-to restaurants became awful places. And although I had treated these places with respect,  we were continuously disrespected. It took me quite  awhile to realize that.

It's like going to your favorite fried chicken outlet, only to be given the worst pieces of chicken and undercooked fries. Chicken on the way, I'm speaking to you about that. No more.

Instead, we began to cook our own food.

Spaghetti, home-made stews, chili, and pork chops with mashed potatoes. Cooked chicken on bread with gravy and peas. Delicious food.

So long assholes.

Chris
