Crackberry-enabled
A year ago I smugly posted that I was no longer going to be carrying a Blackberry Smartphone. You see, I was moving from a contact-contact customer job to a strictly support 9-6 job. There was no need to get these fancy emails after hours anymore. And so a year went by, and I enjoyed some of the disconnect that people feel when being away from the internet and email. Just before I went away to visit my family and friends in Winnipeg, I found out a job had opened up that had more responsibility. I decided to apply for it. I am grateful I actually got the job. One of the side effects (requirements) of this job is I now carry a Blackberry smartphone. It's the fancy BOLD one and it's pretty and all that. But it does deliver e-mails at all hours of the day.
A friend of mine at work sent me a picture similar to the one on the left. You know, Tony Montana from Scarface. "I get out....and they draw me back innnnn". Nice.
I guess you can't escape the hold technology has on people these days. I have two cell phones, two television sets, two laptops and one home computer. I also have a PVR and set-top western digital media device. In addition I have tens of thousands of TV shows available at any time and even my God damn watch can tell me when I'm going to take a shit next. Technology is just fucking nuts.
But I guess I should be grateful for what I have and not what I don't. Life is short, and if you don't stop and take the time to smell the flowers...well.... it may just pass you by. At least that's what Ferris Bueller said in 1987.
Peace!
