Drive Your Car into the ground
Generally the best idea is to buy a good used car, then drive it until it's no longer feasible or safe. I see alot of old people driving relics from the 80's and 90's around.
These people have disposable cash, but want to keep driving their "minty" old relic because it appears to be working fine. And that may be well and true - but wouldn't you want to spoil yourself with a nice newer vehicle in your final years of driving?
I know I would.
The idea of toiling around in a Chrysler Sebring or Dodge Cirrus is ridiculous. You've made it this far in life. Spoil yourself and enjoy the last driving years with a decent ride.
