My dad died about 32 years ago on August 3, 1987. I remember what I was doing at that time: Working as a dishwasher at Country Kitchen restaurant in Winnipeg, Manitoba. I was 17 years old at the time. It was a shitty job.
It seems unbelievable that this amount of time has passed, and yet it has. I visited his grave about 2 years ago, it was nice to go out to the rural country side. It was very peaceful.
On my toolbox I wrote the year 2000 - almost 20 years ago. I still have the same tools my grandma bought me for Christmas one year. I also have tons of other wrenches and stuff I've picked up over the years.
Today I had to remove my car seat to change the seat belt receiver. Turns out my Mazda's broke, and it wouldn't hold the seat belt anymore. $5 at the local pick a part fixed that. Although I stripped the original bolt, I had locking pliers that could take the bolt off.
Back then, I was driving an old 1984 Chevy truck that was not very reliable. It was my dad's, and I ended up selling it in 1995 to get a 1992 F-150. Compared to the F150, my Chevy ran like a Lexus.
The F150 had numerous problems and issues I couldn't keep up with. The final straw was the torque converter was warped, and I had to have that replaced for $1500.
I never went back to trucks after that. While I did stupidly lease a few GM cars afterwards, I learned what quality vehicles are and which to avoid. Hint: Don't buy used luxury vehicles such as BMW, Jaguar, or Mercedes-Benz. They are all money pits.
I'll keep my Mazda a while longer, eventually replace it with a Toyota Camry, Honda Accord, or maybe a Lexus.
