I Wrote About Grief
Many people don't know what to say to a friend or even a family member when they lost a spouse. Its natural to avoid these uncomfortable feelings. And yet, here we are, moving in a circle of reflection, sadness, and loneliness.
I found an old calendar from 2011. It was when we were still in Dartmouth, but moving to Halifax in August. It was an exciting time, because we were combining households of her mother & ours. Sadly, Marion would die in March 2012 from a sudden heart attack. So would her sister, Bernice, but 24 hours earlier. But these were good times. Although George had passed away, he was 85 and had a full life. I still had a shine in my eye, and so did Theresa.
I spoke to a female co-worker today over the phone. It was a nice conversation. We chatted for 20 minutes, and afterwards I thought to myself "oh my goodness, what would Theresa think abut this?" and then realized she is gone.
You find old notes when cleaning up, from myself; it was what she wanted me to pick up for her. Ever since we met in January 1999, I have been on endless running errands with her. I never minded. Sadly, she smoked up until her last days. Even if she quit, she would not have prolonged her life much.
