Remembering The Past

2008 - Our Apartment in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia
I remember this apartment very well. We lived at 25 Arthur Street in Dartmouth Nova Scotia - my late wife Theresa and our cat, Kitty (1st one). The extension cord winding it's way up the wall is for security. A few months ago, we had someone in a vehicle stay in front of our apartment balcony for hours at night. I decided to put a light out there, and it helped keep the strange people away.

Back then, my late wife Theresa was a Licensed Practical Nurse. She worked hard and also took care of her mom and step-dad. It wasn't easy.

Was 2008 that far away?
That electric fireplace, given to us by her mother, was originally purchased by Marion - but she ran out of room, and we started to own it. I would get rid of it years later, and it's likely in a landfill by now.

The tube TV would die in 2 years, and I would replace it with our first 720p "HDTV LCD" set. You can see our cable box, and DVD player in the glass window of the entertainment stand. Back then I didn't own a home computer.

So many items in this photo bring up sad memories of the past. The building is no longer there. It burned down in 2010, and was replaced by a new one of similar design. It took 3 years, but a new building as standing in 2013.

That red boombox on the fireplace. It was a gift by my now late wife's aunt Bernice Wood. She died in 2012, a day after Marion died. And now that I think of it, they were tough times with money that was difficult to find. I worked very hard and continue to work hard in my current job.

But when I look back at these photos, I have moments of regret and sadness. In 2008 I was almost 39 year old. Now I am 55 years old.

There is a world of difference between then and now.

And sometimes I long for it.
