Gardening Season
It won't be long now before the May long weekend approaches. Everyone in Canada begins planting their favorite plants into their gardens. People start heading out to their vacation homes or camping.
I remember one year, my grandma had a legendary garden in her Portage la Prairie back yard: Tomatoes, cucumbers, melons, peas, spinach, lettuce, carrots, flowers, and strawberries.
It gets very hot in Manitoba during the summers. This is great for tomatoes. My grandma used to load up the back yard with grapes, blueberries, and even Swiss chard.
Grandma is long gone, having passed away in the late 90's due to a car accident my uncle was in. He is also long dead.
The only problem with gardening in Alberta is the random hail storms. You have to cover the garden due to the unpredictable weather conditions.
It is possible to grow food but you really need a rural piece of land due to the garden size - preferably to grow more variety of vegetables.
I'll be doing more flashback posts in the next few weeks. I have some amazing stories to tell.
