Memories

Years ago I had a Fuji camera, a simple point-and-shoot digital one. It had this amazing zoom lens, and I managed to take a photo of these birds in the Halifax harbor.

Trying to get that perfect shot is impossible. You can spend years using software to add color, sharpen, and even remove objects. But why? Sometimes the imperfect is perfect.

A year later I would lose the camera while riding a bicycle in Winnipeg. To be honest, the image quality wasn't great, and it suffered from purple aberration - a visual distortion that occurs when you use a zoom lens: Purple appears in the image as a halo.

Back then digital cameras were fairly simple. The really fancy ones were about $1200 - $2500. And to be honest, it  didn't matter how much money you spent on camera gear - what really matters is the content.

There is no shortage of things to take pictures of in Nova Scotia. With the scenic harbor, the ships that arrived daily, and tourists during the summer. They have busker festivals during the summertime, and you could see some interesting street performers.

The old churches and graveyards were wonderful for photos. If you took your time, and went through the Halifax Public Gardens, there was an abundance of wildlife and flowers for you to look at.

One didn't need fancy devices to be happy.
